Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) are institutions of higher education that qualifies for funding under the Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities Assistance Act of 1978 or the Navajo Community College Act; or is cited in section 532 of the Equity in Educational Land-Grant Status Act of 1994. These educational institutions are distinguished by being controlled and operated by American Indian tribes; they are a part of American Indians’; institution-building in order to pass on their own cultures.
